NY Giants cornerback, Corey Webster is very good cornerback. In fact, since 2007 he has been one of the more productive corners in the NFC.
However, I guess I missed the story written by Matt Mosley regarding a challenge from NY Giants G.M. Jerry Reese toward Giants corner back, Corey Webster.
"He’s got to be the guy we paid,” said Reese. “He’s got some play-making ability. He’s got to keep it between his ears, keep it right in his head.
"He’s got all the tools to be a really great corner. But he’s got to get it in his head, ‘I’m a great corner and I can play against anybody.’ When he falls short sometimes, I think he has a mental lapse in his head about something.”
Now I understand this material is now 13 days old but I would like to take this time to support Corey Webster. Of all the people to single out, I question Jerry Reese motives. Maybe JR forgot how little help he gave Webster come game day.
There was little to no pressure from the defensive line...especially since Fred Robbins was coming off microfracture surgery and was a shell of himself, Barry Cofield was also coming off knee surgery and Osi Umenyiora all but disappeared.
Lets not forget the "flat out" terrible play by the linebacking unit and Jerry Reese's decision to promote Bill Sherdian to Defensive Coordinator! Under Sheridan the team dropped 8 of their last 11 games and allowed 40 points on five different occasions...a franchise record.
Did JR forget that starting cornerback, Aaron Ross and starting safety, Kenny Philips went down with major injuries. Did he forget that his answer to those injuries was to sign CC Brown and Aaron Rouse?
Jerry Reese should be praising Corey Webster for being the "only" consistent player on the defense to wear Giants blue and possibly look at himself in the mirror.

I totally dissagree with you. Corey Webster was an under achieving cornerback last season. I expect more from his as well.
Thanks for the read Darrell. Yes, he did have an up & down year; however, if there was more pressure upfront & the guys playing beside him were true NFL talent... I believe he would have had a better year.
